Sexual Health, STI & HIV Services

Our sexual health services focus on prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, education, and wellness, delivered with discretion and respect.

Services May Include

  • STI screening and testing, including gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis, syphilis, and hepatitis
  • HIV testing and evaluation
  • Evaluation following a known STI exposure or related symptoms
  • Treatment of eligible infections and sexual-health counseling

When to Consider Testing

  • Unusual discharge, burning, or pain with urination
  • Genital itching, sores, or pelvic discomfort
  • A partner diagnosed with or showing symptoms of an STI
  • A recent sexual exposure that concerns you

Some STIs cause no symptoms, which is why routine screening can matter for people with certain risk factors. Treatment and prescriptions are provided when clinically appropriate following an evaluation.

HIV Prevention: PrEP & PEP

PrEP daily tablets for HIV prevention and Doxy-PEP capsules for STI prevention

PrEP — Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis

PrEP can help reduce the risk of acquiring HIV for people who may be at increased risk. We provide consultation and evaluation, including a discussion of medication options and appropriate laboratory monitoring.

PEP — Post-Exposure Prophylaxis

PEP may help prevent HIV after a potential exposure when started promptly. If you believe you have recently been exposed to HIV, seek medical evaluation as soon as possible — PEP is time-sensitive.

Reproductive Health

Our goal is to help patients make informed reproductive-health decisions based on their individual circumstances and preferences.

  • Pregnancy testing and emergency contraception
  • Contraceptive counseling and birth-control options
  • Preconception counseling
  • Reproductive-health education and appropriate prescriptions following evaluation

Women's Sexual Health & Menopause Care

Women's sexual health can be affected by hormonal changes, infections, dermatologic conditions, pain, dryness, medications, and stress. We provide evaluation and management of conditions that may affect comfort and quality of life.

Hormone therapy options for menopause, including estradiol patches, gels, vaginal cream, and progesterone capsules

Women's Sexual Health

  • Vulvovaginal dryness and dyspareunia (painful intercourse)
  • Bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, and other vaginal infections
  • Genital skin concerns, including folliculitis and hidradenitis suppurativa

Perimenopause & Menopause

  • Hot-flash and night-sweat management
  • Hormonal and non-hormonal treatment options
  • Vaginal and vulvovaginal symptom management
  • Sleep, mood, and contraceptive considerations during perimenopause

When a condition requires an in-person examination, laboratory testing, imaging, or specialist evaluation, patients are referred for appropriate in-person care. Treatment is individualized based on your health history, symptoms, and goals.

Men's Sexual Health & ED Care

Men's sexual health includes physical, emotional, and reproductive well-being. We provide confidential evaluation for erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, ejaculatory concerns, and certain hormone-related concerns.

Erectile dysfunction can be associated with cardiovascular health, diabetes, medications, hormonal factors, or other conditions. Our approach begins with understanding your symptoms and history, and may include prescription medication, lifestyle recommendations, laboratory evaluation, or referral when additional assessment is needed.

Weight Management & Metabolic Health

Weight and metabolic health can influence sexual health, energy, mobility, and overall well-being. Our approach focuses on sustainable health improvements rather than weight alone.

FDA-approved GLP-1/GIP weight-management medications including Saxenda, Wegovy, and Zepbound

During Your Consultation

Dr. Watkins reviews your health history, current medications, weight-management goals, BMI and relevant health factors, lifestyle considerations, and potential medical risks and benefits.

When clinically appropriate, prescription options may include FDA-approved GLP-1/GIP-based therapies such as Zepbound® or Wegovy®. Medication selection is individualized and depends on clinical eligibility, medical history, contraindications, and availability. Weight management is approached as part of comprehensive health, not a guarantee of improved sexual function.

Dermatology & Sexual Wellness

Skin conditions affecting the genital or surrounding areas can interfere with comfort, hygiene, and intimacy. We evaluate and manage a range of dermatologic concerns.

  • Hidradenitis suppurativa and folliculitis
  • Vulvovaginal skin concerns and acne
  • Hyperpigmentation, discoloration, and fine lines
  • Prescription tretinoin as part of an individualized skin-care plan, when appropriate

Specimen Self-Collection & Convenient Testing

When appropriate, self-collection can offer a more convenient and comfortable option for certain infection tests through participating laboratory services or other approved testing pathways. Self-collection does not replace a medical examination when one is clinically necessary. Please notify Dr. Watkins if you may be pregnant or have symptoms suggesting pelvic inflammatory disease, including pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, or unusual discharge or odor.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I consider STI testing?

Consider testing if you notice unusual discharge, burning with urination, genital sores, pelvic discomfort, or if a partner has been diagnosed with or has symptoms of an STI. Many STIs cause no symptoms, so routine screening matters if you have risk factors, even without symptoms.

What is the difference between PrEP and PEP?

PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is taken regularly to reduce the risk of acquiring HIV before a potential exposure. PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is started after a possible exposure and is time-sensitive, so evaluation should happen as soon as possible following a suspected exposure.

Can Dr. Watkins prescribe medication for weight management?

When clinically appropriate, Dr. Watkins may consider FDA-approved GLP-1/GIP-based medications after reviewing your health history, current medications, and goals. Medication selection is individualized and depends on eligibility, medical history, and contraindications identified during your evaluation.

Do I need an in-person exam for perimenopause or menopause symptoms?

Many perimenopause and menopause symptoms, such as hot flashes, mood changes, and sleep disruption, can be evaluated by telehealth. If your history, symptoms, or medication plan requires an examination or lab testing, Dr. Watkins will refer you for appropriate in-person care.

Is specimen self-collection a replacement for a medical exam?

No. Self-collection can offer a convenient option for certain infection testing, but it does not replace an in-person examination when one is clinically necessary, such as with pelvic pain, unusual discharge and odor, or symptoms suggesting pelvic inflammatory disease.
